Trailer Watch: Tina Fey Wants to Blow Things Up in War-Journalism Comedy 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot'

One day before the release of the sweet and salty “Sisters,” her latest team-up with friend Amy Poehler, Tina Fey has debuted the first trailer for the war-journalism comedy “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.”

What’s a “war-journalism comedy,” you ask? Fey stars as a TV reporter trying to have it all get away from it all by signing up to cover Afghanistan and Pakistan. She’s in over her head, but so is everyone else: A lot of the explosive-heavy trailer focuses on the heavy contrast between the real dangers happening in Kabul and the surreal party atmosphere within “The Funhouse,” where the foreign journalists live. Adapted from Kim Barker’s memoir “The Taliban Shuffle,” the screenplay (by “30 Rock” EP and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” co-creator Robert Carlock) also focuses on what it’s like to be a (white) woman in Afghanistan.

Named after the military alphabet code for “WTF,” “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” opens March 4, 2016.
