After taking on Cold War politics and espionage in “Bridge of Spies” this year, Steven Spielberg is going back to basics next summer with his much anticipated adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The BFG.” The coming-of-age family adventure film tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and dangers of Giant Country.
The film introduces newcomer Ruby Barnhill in the lead role of Sophie, while Spielberg’s “Bridge of Spies” Oscar favorite Mark Rylance will use motion capture technology to bring the BFG to life. Supporting cast members include Bill Hader, Penelope Wilton, Rebecca Hall and Jemaine Clement.
Watch the debut teaser above, which is light on plot but heavy on the fantastical childhood spirit of Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment classics. “The BFG” hits theaters July 1, 2016.
