Angela Bassett, Kenny Leon, Dee Rees and Chris Rock Are All Directors Guild 2015 Nominees

Directors Guild of America President Paris Barclay has announced the DGA’s nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Commercials and Documentary for 2015.

“With more television and documentary choices than ever available to audiences, the level of directorial excellence across the nominees for these nine categories is unparalleled,” said Barclay. “We’re proud to recognize the critical role of director in these genres and honor the incredible range of talent and skill found in all of these projects. Congratulations to the nominees.”

The winners will be announced at the 68th Annual DGA Awards on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles. The event will be hosted by actor Jane Lynch.

In the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in
Movies for Television and Mini-Series category:

– Angela Bassett is nominated for her directorial debut “Whitney,” Lifetime’s Whitney Houston telepic which starred Yaya DaCosta. This is obviously Ms. Bassett’s first DGA Award nomination.
– Kenny Leon is nominated for directing “The Wiz Live!” for NBC. This is his second DGA nomination. He was previously nominated in this same category in 2008 for “A Raisin in the Sun.”
– Dee Rees is nominated for directing “Bessie,” HBO’s Bessie Smith telepic which starred Queen Latifah. This is Ms. Rees’s first DGA Award nomination.

And in the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Variety/Talk/News/Sports Specials for 2015:

– Chris Rock is nominated for directing “Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo” for HBO. This is his first DGA Award nomination.
