'Avengers: Infinity War' Will Feature 67 Characters

"People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie," co-director Joe Russo recently teased about "Avengers: Infinity War." And seriously, he’s not messing around. We always knew the two-part Marvel movie was going to big. But I don’t think anyone is prepared for just how big it’s going to get.

Speaking at Wizard World New Orleans, Russo revealed the cast of ‘Infinity War’ is going to be nothing short of massive. "We have so many characters we’re dealing with.  We’re breaking ground on ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ We have a board with 67 characters on it," he revealed.

That makes sense given he’s previously said the movie will unite the Marvel universe — but one has to wonder if these superhero movies are just getting too big for their own good. We’ll have to see when audiences give their verdict this year on "Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice" (which will feature appearances from plenty of other DC Comics characters) and "Captain America: Civil War" (which is practically another ‘Avengers’ movie given its scope and scale). And while many complain about "Star Wars" not yet making the most of the vast galaxy of its setting to tell different stories, maybe Lucasfilm is onto something by keeping the core intimate.

"Avengers: Infinity War — Part 1" opens on May 4, 2018. You might want to bring a notepad to keep track of who’s who. [Comic Book Movie]

Did a quick tally of all the still-living and future planned superheroes… I’m getting a tally of about 23. Not including secondary characters/supporting characters like Pepper Potts or Maria Hill. Add in villains and the secondary people, plus the fact that this is a 2-part, potentially 5+-hour total film venture, and that it’s in the planning phase at the moment, and it seems to make sense.

Will it be too much? Perhaps. But I doubt we’re going to be seeing all 67 characters getting anything close to equal amounts of screen time. This seems to be about as many characters as Two Towers and Return of the King had. No one complained about that.

So, just over 3.5 minutes per character, assuming equal time and 120 minute movies. Hmmm.

The Russo brothers are talented film makers, so the films will be epic. As ever, the internet gets the facts without context and reacts like a pre-schooler who needs a nap. If this headline bothers you, don’t go. The rest of us will be nerding it up on opening night. Can’t wait!!

That’s 67 potential franchises.

The only thing Lucas film did was delay a awesome movie along with Goerge Lucas. Thank goodness Disney scooped it up while Goerge says he wouldn’t have gone that direction. Directions? He wasn’t gonna make anymore so his comments are void. As far as super hero movies. Bigger is better. Can not wait for them to start rolling out.

If you read the comic books of the infinity wars,99% of the characters die from Thanos in a huge battle/slaughter…I can only imagine the movie will take the same route and kill off half the characters by part 1. They all get revived in the end,but I can see how this could end the the whole marvel movie madness

"Lucasfilm is keeping the core intimate"? Isn’t rogue one, that’s due out this year, exactly the opposite of keeping it intimate? They’re now adopting the same strategy

"People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie." How ironic that quote will likely prove when the number of characters shoehorned into the movie ends up being exactly what everyone complains about.

Prediction: this will be the movie that breaks the superhero bubble.
