Not even the great Martin Scorsese is immune to the whims of the economy and the movie industry. Back in the mid-90s, Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese started collaborating on a potential movie idea, and in 2008, the filmmaker’s “Boardwalk Empire” collaborator, Terence Winter was called in to write the script…but it didn’t get very far. “By 2009, the economy crashed, and it was clear no one was going to make a three-hour period epic about the music industry,” Winter told Deadline. But in stepped HBO. Now “Vinyl” is set to rock ‘n roll next month and a new trailer has landed.

Bobby Cannavale, Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Juno Temple, Jack Quaid, James Jagger, and Paul Ben-Victor star in the series that follows Richie Finestra, the founder and president of American Century Records, who tries to save his company and soul without destroying everyone in his path. With his passion for music and discovering talent fallen by the wayside, and American Century on the precipice of being sold, he has a life-altering event that reignites his love of industry, but severely damages his personal life.
