Exclusive: Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan and More Headlining Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Event

Blackout for Human Rights and the Campaign for Black Male Achievement are joining forces this MLK Day for a special commemorative event in Harlem, New York celebrating and honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 

On Monday, January 18 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., “MLK NOW” will explore how the iconic civil rights leader’s message and vision continue to resonate in today’s racial, social and political landscape.

The event will be held at Harlem’s Riverside Church, where Dr. King performed his famous 1967 speech “Beyond Vietnam: A Time To Break Silence.” VICE will serve as the official media partner.

Headlining the day will be some of the most influential actors and artists in the business, all of whom will recite some of Dr. King’s most historic speeches. Artists and influencers taking part include Harry Belafonte, Chris Rock, Ryan Coogler, Octavia Spencer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Anika Noni Rose, Andre Holland and more.

Additionally, “MLK NOW” will include performances by Bilal and India Arie. The event will close with a panel discussion addressing topics such as police violence, racial and social injustice, economic inequality, the prison industrial complex and grassroots and political mobilization. Panelists will include Coogler, J. Cole, Urban Cusp Founder Rahiel Tesfamariam, activist Leon Ford, Jr. and more.
