Jennifer Lawrence has signed on to portray a woman with one of the strangest life stories we’ve heard in awhile.
The actress is set to play Marita Lorenz, a woman who had a relationship with Fidel Castro in 1959 as a 19-year-old. Lorenz soon returned home to America, where she was trained as an assassin-spy by the CIA. When she returned to Cuba the following year on a mission, however, Lorenz didn’t pull the trigger. Legend has it that love overtook her, but the truth is usually a lot more interesting than fiction in these cases.
Set in the ’50s, “Marita” will center on Lorenz’s affair with Castro. The project was accepted as a pitch by a co-writer of “American Hustle.” Lawrence will produce.
Sony is currently planning on a release in late 2017.
