'Meru,' 'Clouds of Sils Maria' and More Coming to Hulu This February

Hulu is starting off the year by releasing many new titles into its streaming library. Among these titles are several television shows from both major networks, as well as a few of Hulu’s own personal ventures into small screen entertainment. There are a handful of recent independent documentaries that made the list as well, such as 2015’s “Meru” and “In My Father’s House.” Hulu’s new additions vary considerably in genre and are sure to satisfy a wide range of avid television and movie buffs alike. 

Listed below are all of the titles that will make their Hulu debut in February, as well as a few of Indiewire’s picks for what to stream. Titles featuring an asterisk are available with a subscription to the Showtime Premium add-on.

Indiewire Pick: “The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad” (1988)

Jim Abarahams, David Zukker and Jerry Zukker brought their original series “Police Squad!” to the big screen with the help of Pat Proft in “Naked Gun: From The Files of Police Squad.” The story follows Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen), a less-than-competent cop who attempts to foil an assassination plot against Queen Elizabeth II. The Writer’s Guild of America included this film on their list of the 101 funniest screenplays of all time.

In Ricki Stern and Anne Sundburg’s “In My Father’s House,” rapper Che “Rhymefest” Smith goes on a year-long quest to find and reconnect with his estranged father. Che has not seen his father in over 20 years, but after buying his old house, he begins a journey to find him. The downtrodden landscape of Chicago’s Southside serves as the backdrop for this story of family, new beginnings, and the prospect of leaving behind a legacy and better future for your loved ones.

Written and directed by Olivier Assayas and starring veteran actress Juliette Binoche, “Clouds of Sils Maria” is the story of film star Maria Enders (Binoche), who sees herself in a new light after she is recast in a revival of the play that made her famous decades ago, with her original part going to a younger American actress. In watching this young, scandalous actress take on her role, Maria finds herself reflecting on how she has become the person she is. Kristen Stewart and Chloë Grace Moretz round out the cast of this touching and introspective drama.

Indiewire Pick: “Meru” (2015)


This 2015 documentary directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi follows three experienced climbers as they attempt to reach the top of Mount Meru, one of the most coveted climbing experiences. As they attempt to tackle the mountain, the climbers’ respective motivations come to light, allowing the audience to get to know them and understand their reasons and emotions behind what they do. The breathtaking visuals of the Himalayas are grounded in the histories and trials the climbers share and conquer together.
