Bill Condon is currently in post-production on his live-action retelling of Disney’s "Beauty and the Beast," complete with a dream cast that includes Emma Watson as Belle, but it looks like he’s about to get some serious competition from France on the release schedule this year.
Shout! Factory, a multi-platform media company, and Pathé International have entered an exclusive film deal to distribute an epic new adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast" in the United States.
Directed by "Silent Hill" director Christophe Gans, this version of the tale stars international heavyweights Vincent Cassel and Léa Seydoux in the title roles. The movie had its premiere at the 2014 Berlin International Film Festival and has finally found a U.S. distributor after seeing success in various markets across the world. Shout! Factory has secured all U.S. distribution rights, including theatrical, VOD, digital, broadcast and home entertainment for cross-platform releases.
Cliff MacMillan handled the acquisition for Shout! Factory. The film deal was negotiated by Shout! Factory’s David McIntosh and Muriel Sauzay, EVP of International Sales, Pathé. No U.S. release date has been set.
