Sound Mixers Nominate ‘Star Wars,’ “Mad Max,’ ‘The Revenant’

Sound Mixers Nominate 'Star Wars,' "Mad Max,' 'The Revenant'

The nominees for the 52nd Cinema Audio Society awards for achievement in sound mixing include critics’ favorite “Mad Max: Fury Road,” mega-blockbuster “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and momentum-gathering “The Revenant,” fresh off Golden Globe wins for Best Picture (Drama), Best Actor (Drama) Leonardo DiCaprio, and Best Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu—not to mention a weekend in which it challenged “Star Wars” for the top spot at the box office. “Bridge of Spies” and “The Hateful Eight” round out the final five.

The separate animation category includes a nomination for “Inside Out,” which is hoping to earn a Best Picture nomination in addition to an expected Best Animated Feature win, while the TV nominations featured “Game of Thrones” (HBO), “The Walking Dead” (AMC), and “House of Cards” (Netflix). (The only series or miniseries to receive multiple nominations was FX’s “American Horror Story: Hotel,” with two.)

The CAS awards will be announced February 20 in a ceremony at the Millennium Biltmore hotel, where “Trumbo” director Jay Roach will receive the CAS Filmmaker Award, and ADR Mixer Doc Kane will receive the CAS Career Achievement award. Read the full list of nominees below.
