There’s a lot to look forward to over the next over the next 12 months to keep you busy — here’s our 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2016 and 25 Most Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2016 — but for fans of David Lynch, the upcoming year is going to be a long one as the wait continues until 2017 for the return of "Twin Peaks." The director is hard at work on the next installment of the show, but Showtime had some news at the Television Critics Association about when we can expect it.
“I’m excited to tell you that David Lynch is now more than halfway through his shooting schedule, and the limited series will premiere in the first half of 2017,” Showtime CEO David Nevins said. And well, that’s about all the information he was willing to share.
Indeed, there has been so much secrecy around the shoot that right now, the only confirmed returning cast member is Kyle MacLachlan. However, it’s pretty well understood that a majority of the old cast members will be back with Deadline recently reporting that Sherilyn Fenn will reprise her role, and that Miguel Ferrer, Sheryl Lee, David Patrick Kelly, and Richard Beymer are all likely among the players too. Not coming back? Lara Flynn Boyle.
So plenty to think about across the upcoming year. But like I said, there will be plenty of other distractions on both the big and small screen before you settle in for a return to "Twin Peaks."
