A staple of many of who grew up in the ’80s, Pee-wee Herman might seem like an oddity for millennials. But for those of a certain age, the return of the character has been a long time coming. Paul Reubens first revived Pee-wee in a major way on Broadway, but now he’s coming back to the big screen — well, to the movies, at any rate — with the Judd Apatow-produced Netflix release "Pee-wee’s Big Holiday," and the first teaser has landed.
Co-written by Reubens and Paul Rust (who co-wrote and leads his own upcoming Netflix show, "Love"), and directed by John Lee ("Broad City," "Inside Amy Schumer"), the movie finds Pee-wee back on the road for a whole new adventure. Here’s the synopsis:
The new film stars the beloved fun-loving hero of TV, stage and film, Pee-wee Herman. In Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday in this epic story of friendship and destiny. The film stars Pee-wee Herman, Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike XXL), Jessica Pohly (Stalker), Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and was directed by John Lee (Wonder Showzen, Pee-wee’s Big Holiday). Paul Reubens and Paul Rust (Love, Arrested Development) wrote the film, that was produced by Reubens and Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, Bridesmaids).
"Pee-wee’s Big Holiday" will premiere at SXSW and hit Netflix on March 18th. Watch below.
