To be honest, I find most contemporary horror fairly lacking, so I had my reservations when I heard that “The Conjuring” was actually decent. But color me surprised when I finally caught up with it around Halloween. James Wan crafted a pretty terrific and genuinely scary movie owing much to the great horror films of the ’70s, while also retaining its own unique spirit. Of course, a sequel had to come along, but I have some faith, if only because it’s taking the first film’s two leads and putting them in a whole new setting.
Rather than continue the tale of the Perrons, “The Conjuring 2” finds paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) headed to England to examine a series of scares afflicting the Hodgson family. And yes, its based on a true story (read about it here).
“The haunting that afflicted the Hodgson family is probably one of the most documented paranormal cases in the world,” Wan told EW.
“The Conjuring 2” opens on June 10th.
