With the controversy around the Oscars swirling, and the buzz of the Sundance Film Festival picking up, you might be forgetting that the long delayed western, “Jane Got A Gun,” is finally going to arrive on the big screen. The Weinstein Company rolls out the movie next week, and right now the film seems stuck between two questions: was it saved after Lynne Ramsay left right before production started, or is it a star-studded disaster? Perhaps, the answer lies somewhere in between.
Natalie Portman, Joel Edgerton, Ewan McGregor, Noah Emmerich, Rodrigo Santoro and Boyd Holbrook star in the movie that follows a woman who asks her ex-lover for help in order to save her outlaw husband from a gang out to kill him. And with a better look at the movie in these first two clips, maybe what we’re going to get from Gavin O’Connor is a solid genre effort, no more, no less. And maybe that’s not so bad? I’d be fine sitting through a perfectly fine western with this cast, and considering the turmoil it underwent before cameras rolled, maybe that’s a best case scenario.
“Jane Got A Gun” opens on January 29th. Check out the clips below plus a new poster and TV spot.
