READ MORE: 10 More Hidden Gems from the 2016 Sundance Lineup
There’s plenty of interesting stuff coming out of Sundance this year, each and every one of them trying to redefine their mediums in their own unique manner. Out of the many films that will play, “The Skinny” is already sticking out as one of the most independent-minded and subversive, both in content and distribution. The web series will be premiering at the festival before becoming available at Refinery29, who have just released a new trailer for their daring project.
The brain child of YouTube filmmaker Jessie Kahnweiler, this upcoming web series was initially crowdfunded on Kickstarter before being picked up by Wifey.tv (co-founded by “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway) and Refinery29. “The Skinny” stars Kahnweiler as a feminist wannabe YouTube comedy star who struggles to live and love in Los Angeles, all while dealing with her bulimia. The dark comedy also features legendary character actor Illeana Douglas.
“The Skinny” will premiere in the Special Events section at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival before going up on Refinery29 on Wednesday, January 27.
