Kevin Smith’s “Tusk” may not have ignited the box office back in September 2014, but the outlandish horror-comedy did earn the writer-director some great reviews after a three-year hiatus from filmmaking. Intriguingly, “Tusk” was just the first part of Smith’s True North trilogy, and he’s back at Sundance this year to world premiere part two, “Yoga Hosers.”
More of a spin-off than a direct sequel, “Yoga Hosers” centers on two 15-year-old convenience store workers, played once again by Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp. The pair get invited to their first senior party, but their plans are disrupted when an ancient evil is unleashed on their Canadian hometown. Not much more is known about the project, though “Tusk” players Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment and Génesis Rodríguez, plus newcomers like Tony Hale, Natasha Lyonne and Adam Brody, are all set to appear.
Sundance audiences will get to see the film this week, but everyone can get a first look thanks to a new clip posted to Kevin Smith’s YouTube page. Mixing the universe of “Tusk” with an atmosphere and cadence akin to “Fargo,” the clip suggests Smith has another wild and wacky movie in store for moviegoers.
