The 15th Tribeca Film Festival is taking major steps this year to keep up with ever-changing storytelling platforms, first by embracing virtual reality and now by opening up a competition in which filmmakers are being invited to submit short films created on Snapchat. The Tribeca Snapchat Shorts program is the first of its kind and will spotlight the best Snapchat stories from across the U.S,
The festival is partnering with the app to invite all Snapchat users to create a story exclusively on the platform. The film cannot exceed 200 seconds and has to be downloaded and submitted to the festival by March 8. Submissions open on February 27. A panel of celebrity jurors and famous Snapchatters (including DJ Khaled) will select 10 winning shorts to be highlighted at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. The shorts may also be featured on a special Snapchat Discover channel.
Submission guidelines and contest rules can be found at the Tribeca Snapchat Shorts website.
