Michael Barker, co-president and co-founder of Sony Pictures Classics, will be inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame with the Austin Chronicle Champion of the Arts Award. In the last 35 years, Barker has been responsible for titles including "Whiplash," "Midnight in Paris," "Searching for Sugar Man," "Inside Job," "Amour" and "A Separation" and he has fostered strong relationships with filmmakers like Richard Linklater, Jeff Nichols and more. Four-time Academy Award nominee and Texas Film Hall of Fame member Ethan Hawke, who was inducted in 2004, will present Michael Barker with this award.
Chandra Wilson, the Houston native who will be completing her 12th season as Dr. Miranda Bailey on ABC’s "Grey’s Anatomy" this year, will also be inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame. Throughout her career, Wilson has been honored with awards from the Screen Actors Guild, People’s Choice, Prism, the NAACP, and five nominations from the Emmy’s.
Jesse Plemons, a Dallas native, will receive the Rising Star Award of the Texas Film Hall of Fame. Plemons got his start on the iconic Texas series "Friday Night Lights." He followed up the role with performances in "Breaking Bad" and "Fargo" Season 2. Plemons can be seen in recent film like "Black Mass" and "Bridge of Spies." His latest project, "Other People," opened the Sundance Film Festival last month.
The Awards will be presented on March 10 at Austin Studios.
