Feelings of Love and Anxieties About Mortality Become Intertwined in 'Plan B'

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film, web series, TV pilot, what-have-you in progress — at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a project you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

Plan B

Logline: An older woman is confronted with Death in the shape of her ex-boyfriend.

Elevator Pitch:
I don’t know about you but I’m tired of seeing older characters in movies and television as asexual babushkas and zany spinsters. PLAN B (working title) is an in-depth character study of an older woman facing and conquering the impossible: death.

Too often are seniors treated insubstantially as characters. Older people have a nuanced understanding of history, along with dignity, power and magnetism. This movie is all about presenting these (often under utilized) older characters in a heroic light and giving them the time on-screen they deserve.

Production Team:
Writer/director Liz Manashil’s first feature, “Bread and Butter,” recently completed an award-winning festival run and was recently featured in HelloGiggles.com as “an absolute must-watch for women everywhere” and in Bustle.com as “the rare film that tackles female sexuality head on.” She has been on several Women In Film panels during her festival run and has written three articles for Indiewire’s Women and Hollywood. Other short form work and information can be found at either here or here
Producers: Nicolaas Bertelsen (“The Land”), Tami Woronoff (“The Other Man: F.W. de Klerk and the End of Apartheid”), Sean Wright (“Just Seen It,” “Bread and Butter”)

About the Film:
I, like most people, have a major fear of death. I wanted to explore that fear through a characters who is often depicted as vulnerable (an older woman) and show her ability to combat the universe’s most scary concept – DEATH- in order to highlight her strength. Older women are powerful and should not be ignored. This film’s purpose is to celebrate and depict the strength and power of all women – of all ages. With almost an entirely female crew in mind, we are prioritizing women in front of and behind the camera.

Current Status: Pre-production.
