Mark Strong Says Daniel Craig Won't Be Returning As Bond

Even before the release of “Spectre” last fall, there have been plenty of rumors that Daniel Craig was done as James Bond, often spurred by the actor’s cranky press tour and open complaints about playing the role. And the talk that he might holster 007 buzzed even louder when Craig signed up to star in the limited series adaptation of Jonathan Franzen‘s “Purity,” which is set to be directed by Todd Field, and would presumably eat up a significant chunk of his schedule. Now, more fuel has been added to the fire.

Mark Strong — a close friend of Craig, who is godfather to the actor’s oldest son — has told Shortlist he’s long dreamed of playing a Bond villain (“the absolute pinnacle” of roles), particularly opposite his pal, but unfortunately, “I think he’s come to the end of his Bond time and so it’s probably never going to happen, but that would have always been great.”

Noting that there are “powers at work greater than us who make all these decisions,” Strong added, “I think he feels like he’s mined it. He’s done what he wants with it.”

Naturally, there’s still no official word either way, but maybe someone should announce something so we can move on and start focusing on the next Bond and where the franchise goes from here.

"Even before the release of "Spectre" last fall, there have been plenty of rumors that Daniel Craig was done as James Bond[…]" wow, your tenses are all over the place, i think you need to go back to school.

Yes, please please PLEASE get Clive Owen as Bond.

@UNKNOWN – You can’t start by reading their comments on the option of casting Idris. Google is your friend.

@BB – How the h*ll do you known the people behind Bond are racist? Where is the proof? You have none other then throwing the "race card" crap. Idris is a good actor but there are better choices then him.

@Stephanie – Tom Hardy? No. Hardy is a solid actor but everyone seems to be throwing his name in every freaking franchise. Hardy is to good of a talent to be wasting his talent on a recycled franchise. The role of Bond should go to a lesser known actor.

What about Tom Hardy as bond?

Theo James?! Go watch a Nickelodeon channel. The actor should in 40s, not some pubescent kid. I would love Idris to do it after Graig is done with the part, but the people behind it are racist, so that’s not likely to happen.

I think Craig will do one more – for the money and to go out on a higher note than "Spectre." My choice after Craig would be Theo James.

Seems like a negotiation ploy. He’s still attached to Bond 25.

Idris or no one

@MATT For years i have been saying and so have many others that he would be perfect in the role of 007

June Martin

Sam Heughan would be fantastic.

Keith Chegwin

Bring back Roger Moore!

Can we finally get Clive Owen as bond then please.
