Te-Nehisi Coates Responds to His Appearance on 'Black-ish's' Police Brutality Episode

Last night, “black-ish” aired “Hope,” a landmark episode about racism and police brutality that repeatedly invoked Ta-Nehisi Coates. Andre Jr. quotes from Coates’ “Between the World and Me” and even holds up a copy, which remains prominently displayed on the Johnsons coffee table for the rest of the show, and Coates himself appears as a cable news talking head as the family awaits a grand jury’s decision whether to indict a white police officer for repeatedly Tasing an unarmed black man. (You can guess how the jury decides.) Today, Coates watched the episode and decided to live-tweet his reactions. To quote Laurence Fishburne’s Pops, “This fella Coates sounds like he knows what he’s talking about.”
