Watch Experimental Sci-Fi Short 'Applied Theories of Expanding Minds' Set in a Future Kenya

Interesting concept – one that I think could be explored in a more *commercial* feature narrative, if only to make it more accessible.

It’s an experimental sci-fi short film titled “Applied Theories of Expanding Minds,” that’s set in a fictional future Kenya, recently freed from Chinese domination. This of course speaks to ongoing Sino-African relations, which have seen the Chinese become an increasingly powerful presence in across continental Africa – what some have branded 21st century colonialism.

In the film, a group of people within a future community in Kenya decide to free themselves from years of oppression, and no longer follow staid Chinese customs. To replace the ways of the old Chinese colonizers, they instead organize their lives according to rules imposed by the magnetic fields of the Earth.

Like I said, interesting concept.

“Applied Theories of Expanding Minds” was directed by Rut Karin Zettergren, Jennifer Rainsford and Lena Bergendahl.

Great premise. I have long wondered about the Chinese influence in Africa (specifically in the Sudan). I am very interested in this. I’ll watch it when I get home from work.
