We’ve just cleared the season of Serious Movies, and are still in the doldrums of the early year, lukewarm releases. While the very R-rated “Deadpool” is sizing up to be a big hit this weekend, the filthy flick may not be what you’re looking for. However, if a true story told with a big helping of heart is more your speed, “Eddie The Eagle” is flying in to get the job done.
Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman star in the true story tale about Michael Edwards, who fights his whole life to become an Olympic champion at something, anything. And it’s only when he finally straps on a pair of skis, that he gets a shot at fulfilling his dream. Here’s the official synopsis:
Eddie the Eagle follows the realization of the childhood dream of Michael Edwards (a.k.a Eddie), and his unflinching determination to become Great Britain’s first Olympic ski-jumper. Reluctantly aided by former ski-jumper Bronson Peary as his coach, Eddie is unwavering in his quest to reach the 1988 Calgary Winter Games. Eddie the Eagle is an uplifting, inspirational story that celebrates human spirit, passion, and one man’s refusal to accept defeat.
“Eddie The Eagle” opens on February 26th. Watch the new U.K. trailer below, along with a clip and featurette.
