FilmRise has picked up the North American rights to the Sundance film “The Greasy Strangler,” which will also play as a “Festival Favorite” at the upcoming SXSW Film Festival on Friday, March 11.

The feature debut of Jim Hosking, “The Greasy Strangler” follows Ronnie and his son Brayden, who run a disco walking tour. When an attractive woman takes the tour, both Ronnie and Brayden compete for her affection while an inhuman maniac begins to strangle victims at night. The film is produced by Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller, Ant Timpson, Tim League, Ben Wheatley and Theo Brooks.

“We are pleased to announce that we have acquired this Sundance standout,” said FilmRise CEO Danny Fisher of the news. “‘The Greasy Strangler’ defies genres and surprises audiences with its originality, and we are confident that fans of the truly bizarre will enjoy what this film has to offer upon its theatrical release this fall.”

“The Greasy Strangler” will be released in theaters this fall.
