IFC Films has acquired U.S. rights to Kelly Reichardt’s latest feature, "Certain Women," starring Laura Dern, Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams, James Le Gros, Lily Gladstone, Jared Harris and René Auberjonois. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions picked up the international rights before production, which received its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
Reichardt wrote and directed "Certain Women" based on the short stories of Maile Meloy, and the feature revolves around the lives of a lawyer, a ranch hand and a married couple in Montana. Laura (Dern) must calm down her client Fuller (Harris) during a dangerous hostage situation. Gina (Williams) orchestrates a dubious land grab, while her husband (Le Gros) only reluctantly goes along with it. A local ranch hand (Gladstone) pines after a drifter (Stewart) passing through town.
“The entire team at IFC Films have long been fans of Kelly and are thrilled to finally be working with her — she is a master at her craft and one of the most distinct storytellers working in cinema today," President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films said. "Along with her amazing cast of Kristen Stewart, Laura Dern, Lily Gladstone and Michelle Williams, Kelly has created another treasure that confirms her as one of our great American filmmakers. We can’t wait to bring it to the theaters for audiences to see."
No release date has been announced for "Certain Women."
