Mondo, the Austin, Texas art gallery responsible for gorgeous limited edition one sheets for classic and contemporary films, is partnering with Acme Archives to create new licensed prints for “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones.” Mondo last tackled the galaxy far, far away in 2010 with a limited run of original works based on the original “Star Wars” trilogy, but this will be the very first time the art gallery releases prints featuring the world’s favorite thrill-seeking archeologist.
“We’ve been a fan of Acme Archives and what they do for years,” said Mondo Creative Director Mitch Putnam. “I think this partnership presents a really great opportunity for new properties, new artist relationships, and overall, a really exciting bunch of releases.”
The new partnership with Acme kicks off today with an amazing Luke Skywalker X-Wing print from artist Mike Mitchell. This is the first in a series of “Star Wars” profiles from Mitchell. The 12×16 giclee print, titled “Red Five,” will be available as a timed sale for 72 hours starting on Thursday, March 17. The release comes on the heels of the success of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” while Disney confirmed yesterday that Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford will be teaming up for “Indiana Jones 5,” set for release in July 2019.
“Despite being a pop culture powerhouse, ‘Star Wars’ never ceases to inspire me due to its breadth of wonderfully original and creative characters,” the artist said. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to show you my favorites. I think if you’re a fan of ‘Star Wars,’ you’re going to enjoy what’s in store.”
