The Criterion Collection and Sony Finally Launch UK Distribution for Home Entertainment

The Criterion Collection is coming to the UK! The beloved home video imprint and and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) have today announced a new partnership that includes a multi-year home entertainment distribution agreement that will bring lauded Criterion titles across the pond. Specially selected films from the extensive collection of classic and contemporary films will now be available for audiences to enjoy at home via Blu-ray and DVD starting on April 18.

The deal marks the first time that the UK will get to see and collect films from the prestigious Criterion Collection.

The first slew of films to be released will include their U.S. featurettes and exclusive artwork and packaging. The Criterion Collection films that will be showcased in the first batch of Blu-rays to the UK includes Albert and David Maysles’ “Grey Gardens,” Frank Capra’s “It Happened One Night,” Roman Polanski’s “Macbeth,” Howard Hawks’ “Only Angels Have Wings,” Ted Wilde’s “Speedy” and Sydney Pollack’s “Tootsie.” Exceptional visuals and sound are at the foundation of each of these Criterion Collection members. 
 
Of the news, Aodán Coburn, Executive Vice President, International for SPHE said, “This partnership demonstrates SPHE’s continued commitment to growing our distribution business.” Simaltaneously, the Criterion Collection will continue to live up to President Peter Becker’s expectation that it serve as a so-called “film school in a box.”
