Are independent film to television adaptations the latest big media trend? Maybe, maybe not, but that’s not stopping TNT

The latest trailer for "Animal Kingdom," inspired by the award-winning feature film produced by Liz Watts and written & directed by David Michôd, is action-packed and announces a premiere date. "Animal Kingdom" is coming to TNT on June 7, just in time for summer TV season.

When teenager Joshua "J" Cody (Scott Speedman) is forced to move to Southern California after his mother dies, he discovers his extended family has more going on than it initially seemed. Soon he is dragged into a life of family crime and excitement, but also potential danger. The gritty production stars Emmy and Tony winner Ellen Barkin as the matriarchal kingpin, reminiscent already of Jean Smart’s character on last season of "Fargo."

"Animal Kingdom" is premiering on TNT on June 7. Watch the trailer above.

Scott Speedman plays an older character, the teen ‘J’ is Finn Cole.

Sorry, meant Finn Cole is Joshua J Cody according to the cast listing.

Correction: Shawn Hatosy plays Cody.
