One of the most unique offerings to sneak into this year’s SXSW Film Festival may just be “The Space In Between – Marina Abramović and Brazil.” Directed by Marco Del Fiol, the Brazilian film is a physical exploration of the country. The film features artist Abramović on a journey through Brazil in pursuit of what she calls “people and places of power” and the links between art and spirituality.
A mix between road movie and spiritual thriller, the documentary reveals the dives into the artists impact on her country and vice versa. It appears to be as much an art film as a document of a landscape.
This is the first feature film from Del Fiol, who also wrote the screenplay and did a great deal of editing on the project. It is the only foreign film to be entered in the Documentary Competition at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.
