In what perhaps was an unintended homage to “Something Rotten!,” Rachel Bloom and Stephen Colbert sang a musical song about musicals in last night’s episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” The meta song lets the perfectly pitched stars contemplate the nature of musicals, as well as what viewers can expect from Bloom’s Broadway-enhanced CW series “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.”

Like a true musical theatre pro, creator and star Rachel Bloom recounted both the ups and downs of her year with the acclaimed TV show, including her surprise Golden Globe win for best actress and her recently gained 13 pounds. Both Colbert and Bloom were not afraid to tackle the latter issue with humor and aplomb.
