Watch: 'The Witch' is Coming Back to Theaters and is More Messed Up Than Ever in New NSFW Trailer

Memorably reviewed by Mashable as a film “so fucked up, Satan would see it twice,” Robert Eggers’ horror sensation is coming back to theaters to allow viewers to, well, basically emulate the horned guy himself and check it a second time (or, if you missed it the first time it went into wide release, to watch it for a first, likely unnerving as hell time). To celebrate this wonderful new way to live deliciously, distributor A24 has released a new trailer, and to say it captures the most evil, twisted and messed up parts of the film is to sell it very short indeed. (It’s also deeply NSFW, so be prepared.)

Eggers’ exceedingly well-crafted feature follows a Puritan family after they’ve been kicked out of the (relatively) cozy confines of a sprawling settlement and forced to make their own way on an initially promising plot of land. Soon, however, spooky happenings and a deepening sense of familial mistrust start to pervade their every experience. Oh, and there’s that baby that goes missing. And whatever is going on with the family’s wild kid twins. And the goat that might be controlling them. And also the witch in the forest. It’s a moody, terrifying time at the movies, and it should be seen in a dark theater filled with an audience that is positively losing their minds.

“The Witch” will be be back in theaters this Friday, April 1. Check out the new trailer above.

It wasn’t that good of a movie. It was going in too directions at once, and wasn’t scarey at all.

Chase

The movie was just awful. There was not plot or back story at all. I wasted money being so excited to see it. Worst movie of 2016 so far

Joseph negra

I loved the movie. It deserves more people seeing it. I dont like a new trailer showing all the most horrific violent stuff as it doesnt ring true to the wonderfully written thriller it is but if it gets more of the masses out to see it, im all for it. Its great like It Follows and The Conjuring few years ago. Slim pickings for really good horrors past few years

A reasonable human-being

Too bad it was a 2 hour snore fest. Watching this film is like a hand job two seconds shy of completion, it leaves you two things. the film left me pissed off with blue balls.

Amanda

Wait, is this not an april fools joke?

Austin

That isnt a trailer. Its a spoiler fest.

Izzy

Why would I want to see this stupid movie again? I’m mad as hell I paid to see it the first time

Justine

This movie was such a huge let down why would they even re-release it.

Get Real

They can put out any trailer they want. You could drop clips from The Tenant and Barry Lyndon, with a C- Cinemascore and the worst world-of-mouth reviews of the year arguably it’s not gonna do much.

Dawn

You all SUCK!

Ellinor

How is it deeply NSFW? Didn’t you guys try to do this before…? Clickbaiting much?

Joe

I dont understand how anyone could like this movie, I could barely sit through it. It was so bad it baffles me how it’s getting all of these raving reviews.

Dennis Harvey

Great. Notwithstanding its semi-tongue-in-cheek tone, this trailer is just going to lure in more yobbos who will then be furious that they got suckered into seeing a slow period drama with some supernatural aspects when they expected nonstop cheesy horror thrills. There are ways of "winning" at the box office that ultimately translate into your audience being less willing to return the next time.

Amanda

Actually, you’re saying the release date is April 1st? As in, April Fools’ Day? I’m on to you…

Amanda

This trailer is awful. So many spoilers and they basically just put all the violent scenes in here, so audiences are going to be immediately dismissive of its brilliance more than they would have with the real trailers. This movie does not deserve to be treated like the usual pedestrian bloodfest because it isn’t. It’s the best horror flick since It Follows last year, full of slow burn scares and incredible acting, atmosphere and music, and no one cares. This is why we can’t have nice things.

Sally Jones

Didn’t work the first time, won’t work a second

jonflores

…returns this Friday, April 1. ;)

I’m confused. Did it ever LEAVE theaters?
