Amandla Stenberg Wrote, Directed, Shot & Edited a New Short Film titled 'Blue Girls Burn Fast' - Watch it Now

At just 17 years old, Amandla Stenberg has probably accomplished more than many of us had at that age, given the dynamic life that she’s lived thus far, from her acting to her activism, and everything else between. It’s hard not to be impressed with the young lady, and I can only imagine what lies ahead for her, with hopefully many years left to exist, create, influence, inspire, and more.

Two years ago, at 15 years old, she wrote, directed, shot and edited (yup, she did it all) a 13-minute short film titled, “The Yellow Wallpaper,” based on the short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, that documents the experiences of a woman who’s suffering from a mental illness, when she moves into an old house to help clear her mind.

At the time, when I shared the short film on this blog, I mentioned that Stenberg may have behind-the-camera aspirations. And it appears that she does, and it wasn’t just a passing fancy, as she’s done it again, writing, producing, directing, shooting, and editing a new short film titled “Blue Girls Burn Fast,” which Stenberg debuted on her Vimeo page just yesterday.

In terms of what it’s about, Stenberg has just this tease: “Sometimes our emotions are our best friends.” It serves as her application for entrance into NYU’s prestigious film program. “It’s very personal to my heart,” she shared via her Instagram page yesterday.

I won’t say anymore, and instead step aside so that you can watch the 19-minute short film which stars Leeza Lester, Julia Rocha, Kelley Smith Wait, Duke Nicholson, and Kyleigh Booker.

By the way, in terms of acting projects on Stenberg’s slate, she’s currently attached to star in George Tillman Jr.’s #BlackLivesMatter film based on the novel ‘The Hate U Give’ by Angela Thomas; and she’s in talks to star in Amma Asante’s period romance, ”When Hands Touch.”

She also recently launched a new comic book franchise titled “NIOBE: She is Life,” which she co-wrote with Sebastian A. Jones.
