‘Creed’ Star Tessa Thompson Joins ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

'Creed' Star Tessa Thompson Joins 'Thor: Ragnarok'

Now that we know that Natalie Portman won’t be reprising her role as Jane Foster in the third Thor film, set for July 2017, there’s another female lead taking her place in Asgard. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Creed” star Tessa Thompson has signed on for “Thor: Ragnarok.”

The actress made waves during Sundance 2014 with a starring role in festival favorite and winner “Dear White People.,” for which she won a Gotham Award for Breakthrough Actor. Later that year she had a supporting role in “Selma.” Last year, she co-starred with Michael B. Jordan in “Rocky” sequel “Creed.”

It was revealed late last year that “Thor: Ragnarok” was adding another woman to its cast when Cate Blanchett was announced as joining the film. It’s still unclear whether Blanchett’s character will be a hero or a villain. Jaimie Alexander (“Blindspot”) is also returning as Lady Sif.

While Portman and Thompson won’t cross paths in Asgard, they will co-star together in “Annihilation,” an adaptation of the 2014 sci-fi novel of the same name. “Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez and Jennifer Jason Leigh (“The Hateful Eight”) also appear in the film, set in a post-apocalyptic world.
