Peter Capaldi has a new companion in the tenth season of “Doctor Who.” The BBC has announced that Pearl Mackie will play Bill alongside the Time Lord. The news was announced on the show’s Twitter account with a full two-minute scene of the newcomer in her latest role.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Doctor Who family,” she said. “It’s such an extraordinary British institution, I couldn’t be prouder to call the TARDIS my home!”
Mackie replaced Jenna Coleman, who played the role of Clara Griswold. She joined the cast in 2012 and worked with two Doctors, Matt Smith and Capaldi. The actress exited the series after being cast as Queen Victoria in the ITV upcoming drama series “Victoria.”
This will be executive producer and writer Steve Moffat’s last season and will be replaced by Chris Chibnall (“Broadchurch”).
Season 10 of “Doctor Who” will air in 2017, preceded by the annual Christmas special.
