After much anticipation, a few title changes and even some stop-and-start releases, Kanye West’s “The Life of Pablo” was finally made available to the masses in February. Among all the hyping and tweeting, however, one key element has yet to surface: an official music video. Aziz Ansari and Eric Wareheim, heroes that they are, have nobly stepped in to fill that particular void by creating their own unofficial take on “Famous” in Italy. Treat yo self and watch it.
Ansari and Wareheim were most recently seen together on the Netflix series “Master of None,” which Ansari co-created and stars in; Wareheim has a recurring role and directed four of the first season’s 10 episodes. It’s essentially the millennial equivalent of “Louie,” which means you probably binge-watched the entire thing over the course of a single weekend. (I know I did.)
The two co-stars are well-studied in the art of hand gestures and dance moves that evoke grandeur, but their moments of quiet contemplation (most of which involve staring into the middle distance) are not to be overlooked. Anyone who’s watched “Master of None” knows of Ansari’s character’s fixation pasta-making, which includes a dream of absconding to Italy in order to, well, master said trade. Perhaps this is an unofficial tie-in?
