Netflix Orders A 'Punisher' Spinoff Starring Jon Bernthal


As has been long rumored and suspected, “The Punisher” is getting its very own spinoff from Netflix’s popular Marvel series “Daredevil.” Entertainment Weekly reports that Marvel has ordered a new series from the online streaming outfit that will focus on Jon Bernthal’s Punisher character, recently introduced in Season 2 of their popular “Daredevil” series. The official announcement is expected to drop today.

Per EW, writer and producer Steve Lightfoot (“Hannibal,” “Casualty”) will serve as the series’ show runner. 

“The Punisher” will be the sixth series collaboration between Netflix and Marvel Television, including both “Daredevil” (their first) and “Jessica Jones,” along with upcoming offerings like “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist” and “The Defenders.”

Rumors that Marvel was looking into a “Punisher” spinoff was first reported by TV Line last summer.
