Back in 2006 Bryan Singer directed the underwhelming reboot, “Superman Returns” starring Brandon Routh. After many Twitter fans begged and pleaded, the Warner Bros. flick now has its own Honest Trailer from Screen Junkies.
“Don’t let the action fool you, watch as the sleepy remake gets bogged down with tons of boring stuff,” we hear in the voiceover.
Despite being a box office success, bringing in more than $391 million globally on a production budget of $270 million, fans didn’t quite warm up to the newest Clark Kent and this trailer tells you exactly why.
After various Superman projects never took flight, including Tim Burton’s and Wolfgang Petersen’s, there came Singer’s “bland mix of homage, sequel, remake and reboot” that took everything you loved from the older films and did the same, according to the video. Even though Routh was fit for the part, he never captured – and maintained – the same attention as his successor Henry Cavill.
From what we take from the trailer is that Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther, Parker Posey as the lunatic sidekick and the long waiting scenes, didn’t make for a classic Superman film comic fans were waiting for.
