Though best known to most audiences for his comic performances in “Arrested Development” and movies like “Juno” and “Horrible Bosses,” Jason Bateman has been quietly expanding his repertoire in recent years — both in front of the camera and behind it. His directorial debut “Bad Words” was released two years ago, he showed a darker side in “The Gift” and is now back with “The Family Fang,” his sophomore effort as director. Indiewire has obtained a series of exclusive new images from the film.

Bateman stars alongside Nicole Kidman as the son of two artists (Christopher Walken and Maryann Plunkett) whose performative lifestyle has created a familial rift. Reception has been warm so far, with critics praising Bateman’s ability to handle thorny subject matter without resorting to histrionics.

“The Family Fang” premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Starz Digital will release it in New York tomorrow, April 28, before expanding to select cities nationwide and on demand on May 6.
