'The Neon Demon' Red Band Teaser Trailer: Nicolas Winding Refn's Dark Vision Gets NSFW In New Clip

Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn’s new horror/thriller film “The Neon Demon” is set to premiere in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film follows Jesse (Elle Fanning), an aspiring model who moves to Los Angeles and is recruited by a fashion mogul (Alessandro Nivola) to be his muse. There, she finds her beauty and vitality compromised by her peers in the industry who want what she has. “The Neon Demon” also stars Jena Malone (“Donnie Darko”), Abbey Lee (“Mad Max: Fury Road”), Keanu Reeves (“John Wick”), and Christina Hendricks (“Mad Men”). In his twenty year career, Refn has ten films to his name, including the “Punisher” trilogy, “Fear X,” a large box office failure that sent Refn heavily into debt and caused his film company Jang Go Star to enter bankruptcy, and “Valhalla Rising,” starring Mads Mikkelsen. He finally broke through in the United States with his 2011 neo-noir crime drama “Drive,” starring Ryan Gosling as a stunt performer who moonlights as a getaway driver and finds himself caught in an ugly mob situation involving his neighbors next door. While “Drive” was critically acclaimed, his next film “Only God Forgives” received mostly negative reviews with many citing its pretension and needlessly gory violence.

“The Neon Demon” will be Refn’s third consecutive film to compete for the Palme D’Or at Cannes.
