While CinemaCon has been busy this week is pimping every upcoming blockbuster under the sun (hello, four more “Avatar” movies), cinephiles got a reprieve yesterday with the announcement of the Cannes Film Festival lineup. The goodies from the films hitting the Croisette will be rolling out over the next few weeks, and that’s just fine by us.
High on our must-see list at Cannes is Park Chan-Wook‘s “The Handmaiden.” Starring Ha Jung-woo, Kim Min-hee, Jo Jin-woong and Kim Tae-ri, the filmmaker has reconfigured the novel by Sarah Waters and set the story during the Japanese rule of Korea, with the plot revolving around a handmaid who employs the services of an heiress, con man and pickpocket.
Sorry, no subtitles, but you can still get a taste for what’s coming below. Amazon Studios will release the film in the U.S., but no date has been set. [Cine Maldito]
