Woody Allen’s 48th film (if you count his segment in “New York Stories”) “Cafe Society” was selected to open this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Though not much is known about the film’s plot, it’s a 1930’s romance that divides its time between Hollywood and the Bronx. It stars Jesse Eisenberg (“The Social Network,” “Adventureland”), Kristen Stewart (“Clouds of Sils Maria”), Steve Carrell (“The Big Short”), Parker Posey (“Best in Show”), Blake Lively (“The Age of Adaline”), Corey Stoll (“Midnight in Paris”), Jeannie Berlin (“Margaret”), Ken Stott (“Charlie Wilson’s War”), Tony Sirico (“The Sopranos”), and many others.
“Cafe Society” will be Woody Allen’s second consecutive film to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival after last year’s “Irrational Man.” It is also his first feature to be shot digitally with legendary cinematographer Vittorio Storaro (“Apocalypse Now,” “Last Tango in Paris,” “Ishtar”) behind the camera. Check out new images from the film that give us our first look at the aforementioned supporting cast as well as the film’s use of dissolves below.
After its Cannes premiere, Lionsgate Films and Amazon Studios will release the film on August 12th.
