'Café Society': First Clips from Woody Allen’s Cannes-Bound Film Showcase Kristen Stewart’s Budding Romance


As he did in 2011 with “Midnight in Paris,” Woody Allen is set to once again open the Cannes Film Festival, this time with “Café Society.” The writer/director’s latest ensemble includes Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Steve Carell, Parker Posey, Blake Lively and Corey Stoll on a tour of Hollywood circa the 1930s. Ahead of its premiere in just a few days, three new clips have been released.

Eisenberg stars as a young Brooklynite who moves to Tinseltown and gets a job working for his uncle, a high-powered agent (Carell). There, he falls in love with an unavailable beauty (Stewart). The first two scenes show him interacting with the object of his affections and his new boss, respectively, while in the third he talks about booze, opium and other drugs with Lively’s character.

“Café Society” has already been picked up for stateside distribution by Amazon Studios (ditto “The Neon Demon,” “The Handmaiden,” “Paterson” and “Gimme Danger”). It’s being released on July 15.
