With just two days to go before revealing its first-ever talk show, Netflix has dropped a wild and outrageous new trailer for Chelsea Handler’s “Chelsea,” teasing all the inappropriate madness and culture shocks to come. As the trailer makes clear, “Chelsea” will air three times a week (Wednesday-Friday) on Netflix in 190 countries around the world, and while the host will have a shiny new desk and studio, it seems like the bulk of the program will be made up of taped segments that find Handler tackling a variety of issues and topic, similar to Handler’s Netflix documentary series “Chelsea Does.”
The trailer includes segments in which Handler smokes, drinks, gets entangled with a polygamist family and asks questions about the political election. After so many years on E!, it appears Handler is relishing the freedom of Netflix as a platform in which she can curse and do whatever the hell she wants. There’s a liberating quality to the new trailer (the tagline even reads: “Free The Talk Show”) and we expect the show will feature the kind of uncut and uncensored content Handler is best known for.
Handler will kick off the series on Wednesday with a premiere episode devoted to the topic of education. Guests will include Drew Barrymore, Pitbull and U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King. On Thursday, the host will welcome Gwyneth Paltrow, Tony Hale, and TEDTalk’s Chris Anderson for in-studio interviews, while a pre-taped segment will show Handler exploring Telenovelas in Mexico. Finally, Handler will close out the week on Friday with comic book expert Amy Dallen and a pre-tapped dinner with the cast of “Captain America: Civil War,” including Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp and Frank Grillo.
All new episodes of “Chelsea” will debut Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 12:01am PST.
