With the anticipation of “Suicide Squad” rising, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Warner Bros. is contemplating developing a Harley Quinn spin-off with Margot Robbie reprising her villainess role and also producing.
While the project won’t be a full Quinn-based film, it would focus on several DC female heroes and villains. A couple of the names being thrown in the pot aside from Harley are Batgirl and Birds of Prey.
Details for the project are being kept under wraps but it’s known that the writer is female. Sources revealed that since the Australian actress got the role she has immersed herself in the DC world and has become a fan of the female characters. She reportedly brought on the writer to help develop the project which Warners quickly snapped up.
Harley Quinn was originally written as the Joker’s sidekick and girlfriend but overtime has become one of the most iconic villains in the Batman franchise. Her fearlessness and “I do what I want” attitude is what makes her one of the many bad-ass female characters in the DC world.
The actress is set to make her debut as Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad,” opening in theaters on August 5. She can also be seen in “The Legend of Tarzan” in theaters July 1.
