M. Night Shyamalan Goes Into the Woods for Andra Day's 'Rise Up' Music VIdeo

After kindly allowing Paul Thomas Anderson to dominate the auteurs-directing-music-videos news cycle over the weekend, M. Night Shyamalan is doing his utmost to break the internet today with the video for Andra Day‘s “Rise Up.” It’s another restrained effort from the writer/director, who after a series of high-profile misfires (“The Happening,” “The Last Airbender”) has reined in his style of late: “After Earth” and “The Visit” both bore few of the filmmaker’s most distinctive traits.

Described as the “inspiration version” of the song, the low-key clip comes from Day’s album “Cheers to the Fall,” which was released last year and netted the singer/songwriter a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album.

There’s no twist ending here, just some well-shot imagery of Day singing and a wheelchair-bound man on the way to a swanky event. Shyamalan’s next film, the thriller “Split,” stars James McAvoy alongside “The Witch” star Ana Taylor-Joy and will be released next January.
