Margot Robbie Hoping to Find More Roles Where Her 'Relationship With a Male Character' Isn't The Focal Point

In a new interview with the print edition of Australian magazine Woman’s Day (via the International Business Times), Margot Robbie says that she doesn’t want to be considered a “cliche” and wants to take on work that demonstrates she’s not “just a pretty face.” The 25-year-old actress says that she “wants to keep looking for roles where the main interest will be in the character and her importance in driving a story forward, rather than her relationship with a male character.” She discusses how her recent roles in “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “Focus” provided her with the chance to “play charismatic and clever women” even though “they do have a glamorous side.”

Margot Robbie’s first major acting role was in the Australian soap opera “Neighbours,” in which she played Donna Freedman for three years before being written out of the show. She then starred in the short-lived ABC period drama “Pan Am” before breaking through in the role of Naomi Lapaglia, wife of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort, in Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street.” She recently starred opposite Tina Fey in the war dramedy “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.” She’s set to appear in two films this summer: “The Legend of Tarzan” as Tarzan’s wife Jane and “Suicide Squad” as crazed supervillain and former psychologist Harley Quinn.

“The Legend of Tarzan” is set to open on July 1st, and “Suicide Squad” on August 5th.
