Among James Franco’s long list of projects that he’s working on is the remake of the 1996 slasher “Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?” starring Tori Spelling as a teen whose boyfriend is a psychopath killer (Ivan Sergei). Now, Lifetime has released the first trailer of the drama, which has a different twist.
Spelling is once again part of the cast, only this time she’s the in the role of mom Julie. Her daughter Leah (Leila George), is a college theater major who falls in love with a mysterious girl named Pearl (Emily Meade), who happens to be a vampire. Julie suspects that her daughter’s new girlfriend is dangerous and urges her to break up. Though, that doesn’t seem to be something that will happen. Franco also appears in the film watching the rehearsals of a comical theater production, which includes massive amounts of blood.
The idea for the film came after Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig premiered their 2015 thriller “A Deadly Adoption.” Franco told TV critics that Lifetime came to him and asked if he would like to recreate one of their films like Ferrell did, “I said yes, as long as I could change it a bit. It has some similar elements of the original but it’s completely revamped …. You’ll have a very non-Lifetime movie on Lifetime.”

“Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?” premieres on Saturday, June 18 on Lifetime.
