The new documentary “Presenting Princess Shaw” follows Samantha Montgomery, a.k.a Princess Shaw, an elder care practitioner by day and a singer-songwriter by night. She uploads her songs to her confessional YouTube channel, but it unfortunately gains little traction. Meanwhile, Israeli composer, musician, and video artist Ophir Kutiel, better known as Kutiman, creates video mashups of amateur YouTube performers. When Kutiman takes one of Shaw’s videos and turns it into a viral sensation, she gets the opportunity to work with him directly and bring her talent to a broader audience. A stunning, inspiring story, “Presenting Princess Shaw” illustrates the power of never giving up on your dreams, and refusing to let life’s myriad challenges get you down. Originally titled “Thru You Princess,” “Presenting Princes Shaw” had its world premiere at the Jerusalem Film Festival in July of last year. It then screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival. The film is directed by Ido Harr, who previously directed documentaries like “Enlistment Days,” about four men across the globe about to enlist in the army, and “9 Star Hotel,” about Palestinian construction workers who clandestinely sneak into Israeli for job opportunities.
“Presenting Princess Shaw” will enter limited release and VOD on May 27th.
