'Sunshine and Rain' Shows a Young Dallas Woman's Choice Between Family or Future

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film, web series, TV pilot, what-have-you in progress — at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a project you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

Sunshine and Rain

Logline: A gritty narrative about a girl who is caught between sacrificing her future for her troubled family or college: leaving them behind.

Elevator Pitch:
“Sunshine and Rain” is a “day-in-the-life” of Kayla and her family, but it’s a very important day. Kayla’s mother, Charice, has just been released from a substance abuse clinic and brings along her roommate from the clinic to stay with the family. At the house, Kayla’s matriarchy is questioned with this outsider she cannot trust. Because of her mom’s friend, Kayla fears leaving behind her younger brother, Ray-Ray, in Dallas while she goes back to college. She is then forced to make a judgement call between her family and her future.

Production Team:
Writer/Director/Editor – Vish Vallabhaneni
Producer – Tani Shukla
Director of Photography – Garson Ormiston
Production Designer – Victoria Prescott
Composer – Joe Bowman

About the Film:
“Sunshine and Rain” is based on a true story of Vish’s friend, Kayla, and her life in the South Dallas housing projects. The goal of this film is to show a side of Dallas that hasn’t truly been represented on screen at this point in time. “Sunshine and Rain” is also about making sacrifices for your family and, in the end, protecting what you love is what matters most.

Current Status: We are currently fundraising for music licensing, a second sound mix, festival fees, and other distribution costs.
