Malik Bader picked up best director accolades at last year’s genre-facing Fantasia Film Festival for his sharp indie crime feature, “Cash Only,” which apparently features a whole lot of marijuana and some very colorful characters. The film follows Elvis Martini (Nickola Shreli), a beleaguered Detroit landlord who makes a probably ill-advised decision to snatch some cash from an evicted tenant’s place to use to pay off all kinds of debts.
If there’s one thing that movies about “free money” have taught us over the years, it’s that there’s no such thing. Elvis, initially excited by his windfall, soon finds himself in deep trouble, the kind of trouble that might get someone’s child kidnapped or the kind of trouble that leads people to hang out with people named “Kush,” who are very excited about showing off different kinds of marijuana that they happen to be hawking.
You can probably guess which kind of trouble is on display in our exclusive clip from the new feature, which puts one of the film’s more indelible characters at the fore.
“Cash Only” will hit VOD and select theaters on May 13. Check out our exclusive clip above.
